Welcome to the department of Electronic Materials Science and Engineering at Kyungpook National University. Advances in technology and improvements in our quality of life are essentially related with the contemporary development of new engineering materials. The development of materials is essential to the growth of state-of-the-art technologies such as IT (Information Technology), BT (Bio-Technology), NT (Nano-Technology), ET (Energy Technology), and their fusion technologies. This creates enormous demands for education and research concerned with the fundamental understanding of sciences and the practical ability for design, processing, and characterization of materials. The department has been designed to respond to these new challenges and advances. The educational program of the department deals with the scientific and engineering aspects of the structure, properties, synthesis/processing/manufacturing and application of materials. The department has undergraduate and graduate programs and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. The department has 7 distinguished faculty members, 2 staff members, 23 graduate students and postdoctoral researchers, and about 180 undergraduate students. For 21 years, 597 B.S., 150 M.S., and 27 Ph.D. were graduated. The Electronic Materials Science and Engineering program is fully accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABEEK. Wide range of active research topics are pursued by faculty and students in EMSE program. These research topics include: design, synthesis, characterizations, processing of advanced and novel materials for structural, electronic, magnetic, dielectric, optical, electrochemical applications. Recently, nano-structure materials are emphasized for new research area.

History

The Department was established in 1986. Nine faculty members were composed in this department. Recently, two of them have retired, and seven research groups are pursuing various topics.

Objective/Scope

Advances in technology and improvements in our quality of life are essentially related with the contemporary development of new engineering materials. The department of inorganic materials engineering at Kyungpook National University has been designed to respond to these new challenges and advances. Educational program offers broad and intensive studies for undergraduate/graduate students. B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees are offered in inorganic materials engineering. A wide range of active research topics are pursued by faculty and students in IME program. These research topics include: design, synthesis, characterization and fabrication of new or improved materials for structural, microelectronic, magnetic, dielectric, optical, electrochemical devices. Recently, nano-structure materials are being emphasized for new research areas.

Undergraduate/Graduate Program

The Department has an undergraduate program and a graduate program. Both are highly ranked by various rating surveys in Korea. The department prides itself on its devotion to undergraduate education. The B.S. degree prepares students to be on the forefront of developing new materials. The inorganic materials engineering program is fully accredited by the Engineering Accreditation Commission of ABEEK.
